MERLIN - Festulolium
Merlin festulolium is an early-medium variety resulting from a cross between Italian ryegrass and meadow fescue. The benefits of this cross are an improvement in persistence and summer productivity over Italian ryegrass with the increased quality that comes with the lolium species. Merlin was developed in Europe and is a short lived perennial, exhibiting traits most similar to that of Italian ryegrass but with a longer stand life (typically providing 2-3 years of good production before decline). Merlin is excellent for silage or balage, as well as an excellent component in alfalfa/grass mixtures where optimum yield & quality is desired or needed. While primarily utilized for stored feed, Merlin can also be used under grazing situations and is considered very palatable for all classes of livestock.
